Hi R,

Thanks for your comment. I recognize it's a complex issue and it wasn't my intention to come across as simplistic. I apologise if I did. As you know, the majority of infections do come about through unprotected sexual relations. But, for the record, I entirely agree that it's not just about condoms and that there are many routes to becoming HIV positive.

Best wishes,

Hi Anthony - What an absurdly simplistic view you have regarding HIV transmission. It's not just about using a condom. There are many complex factors as to why people may find themselves diagnosed HIV+. I would suggest that educating yourself regarding the many causative factors leading to a positive diagnosis is just as, or even more important than your most welcome fundraising efforts.

Best regards - R.Ure

Hi Iain,

Thanks for your comment - my blog did indeed alert me!

Just for clarity for anyone else who may be reading, the point I was making wasn't about "being gay", but more specifically about unprotected sex (heterosexual or homosexual), which is either practised by people who are ignorant of the risks, or is practised as a "deliberate lifestyle choice". Now, having said that, I do agree with what you say. Although choice does come into play at some point, it's not through choice that people first start to experience same-sex attraction (or opposite-sex attraction, for that matter), and dealing with it can be very difficult indeed.

Thanks for your comments about the singing! I'm not sure I've ever sung any Mahler, but I must explore his work before long.

Hi, Anthony,

I guess it's a bit of a cheek leaving a comment nearly two years after you posted the item & don't know if you'll even see this, unless your blog alerts you to posts.

I was just wondering if you think that being gay is a "deliberate lifestyle choice". Many of the gay people I've met (and my daughter at her school thinks the same) desperately do NOT want to be gay. They'd much rather be straight if they could. It's an extremely difficult thing to accept for many people, often leading to depression and suicide, over failure to change their orientation.

BTW I think your singing is marvellous from the clips I heard. Any chance you could give us some Mahler?
